THE SHACKLETON MUSEUM
The Shackleton Museum has a permanent exhibition devoted to the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton. Highlights include an original sledge and harness from his Antarctic expeditions, a 15-foot model of Shackleton’s ship Endurance, an exhibition of unique Shackleton family photographs and an audio visual display featuring Frank Hurley’s original film footage of the Endurance expedition.

Five members of the committee met the three Carmelites on Thursday morning. It was a very pleasant occasion, even if bitter sweet. We wished them well in their new appointments and recalled the help they had given to the History society on many occasions. Sheila then unveiled the picture, and each of the priests was presented with a copy, and the display one we hope to have in the Iona Centre in due course.
The priests were also presented with three copies each of our latest publications. Father Martin thanked the group and stated that he always found it an easy group to deal with.
Thanks to Gerry Hoey for organising the presentation and to Lynda and Clarinda who looked after the teas and coffees. June also joined us as she has given considerable help from time to time.

Dear Members,
The committee met yesterday . Among items for discussion was how best to have 40 members at the next talk. It was decided to have a booking system. Booking will open tomorrow 1 October. Please let me know by email, text or phone if you wish to attend. When the number of positive responses is 40 it will be considered booked out. We are doing it this way so that nobody will arrive at the Iona Centre and not be admitted. No non- members will be admitted and admission fee remains at €3.00
Please wear masks when circulating in the building, when seated they can be removed. Vaccination cert will need to be shown and we will keep a register of attendance.I hope all these precautions will have you at ease to enjoy the talk.There will be no tea or coffee served after the talk – just this time around.
All going well restrictions will be considerably less at the following meetings.
Don’t forget the A.G.M. starts at 7.30 p.m. sharp.

PODDLE WALK: JULY 2021
19 members attended the walk along the Poddle river through Tymon Park, on a very hot day in July. An enjoyable experience was had by all, with refreshments and a warm welcome upon arrival at the Penny Black.
